How to prepare

A calm, simple guide for parents

Your newborn photography session at Cooper Studio is designed to be relaxed, gentle and completely baby-led. You don’t need to overthink it — a little preparation helps everything flow smoothly, but we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Before Your Session

Feed your baby before you arrive

A full baby is a happy, sleepy baby. If possible, give your baby a good feed just before leaving home. Don’t worry if they need feeding again once you arrive — there’s always time.

Dress your baby in simple clothing

Loose, easy-to-remove clothing helps keep your baby settled. Avoid tight vests or outfits that go over the head. We’ll take care of all wraps and styling at the studio.

Try and keep the day nice and calm

Try to avoid rushing or too many plans before your session. A slow, quiet morning helps babies arrive relaxed and ready to settle.

What to Bring

You really don’t need much — just the essentials:

Milk and feeding supplies

A spare nappy or two

A dummy

Everything else is provided, including wraps, blankets and props chosen to suit our soft, neutral fine art style.

What to Wear (For Parents)

If you’d like to be included in a few images, we recommend:

  • Soft, neutral colours

  • Simple, timeless clothing

  • No bold logos or patterns

Think comfort first — relaxed parents make for beautiful, natural images.

Most Importantly…

Newborn sessions are completely unrushed. We allow plenty of time for feeding, cuddling and settling, and follow your baby’s lead throughout.

Some babies sleep deeply, others like to stretch and look around — both are perfectly normal, and both photograph beautifully.

Please don’t worry if things don’t go “to plan.” Crying, feeding, changing and cuddling are all part of newborn life, and your session is designed around that.

Your only job is to relax and enjoy this quiet moment with 💛
